For all the internet hate on smoothie wheels, it would appear that they have been around quite a while. Can't believe everything on the net perhaps...

    Those look like what we used to call chrome reverse wheels. You would cut the center off the rim, flip it and reweld it. This made the back side with more offset the new outside.
